In a globalized world, we can no
longer close our eyes to the interdependence that
exists among countries and cultures and the need to
better understand the dynamic change that the flow
of ideas, goods, services and people bring.
To succeed in today’s global environment,
an era that is defined by the freedom of
information, students need to complement their
schooling with the international education skills that allow
them to understand and respect other cultures,
languages and beliefs as well as to better
appreciate their own culture and social environment.
Among other things, international education includes
foreign language and cultural learning. Studies have
shown the positive effect that second language
learning has had on test scores, intelligence and
achievement both for children and teenagers. And
cultural awareness at an early age gives children a
starting point to develop a global mindset and a
foundation for competitiveness in college, work and
productive life as world citizens.
The
freedom to learn is a basic human right.
International education creates the opportunities
for students to experience other cultures and other
countries and therefore expand this freedom. |
